Already meeting the standards?

This route is for experienced teachers who can demonstrate the English Teachers’ Standards without additional training. An approved English provider checks your degree and school qualifications, experience teaching in at least two schools, subject knowledge and ability to be assessed in person at your school. It sets its own additional requirements and fees; overseas fees can be substantially higher than the domestic guide price.

Ask a provider: Do you assess teachers in my country, subject and age range? What school evidence, references, assessment visit and total fees do you require?

Need structured training?

An approved English provider trains teachers while they work with a suitable school outside England. Check its entry requirements, teaching subject and phase, school placement and mentor arrangements, English language standard, study mode and fees. Your provider and school assess you against the iQTS standards.

Ask a provider: Is my country and school eligible? Can I train in mathematics or English at my intended age range? Who arranges the mentor and teaching practice?

AITSL skills assessment

If your chosen skilled migration route requires a school teacher occupation skills assessment, check AITSL’s qualification, supervised practice and English language requirements for that occupation. A positive result does not grant a visa or teacher registration.

State or territory registration

Apply separately to the teacher registration authority where you intend to teach. It assesses its own professional, identity, language and suitability requirements. Confirm the process before paying for a migration assessment.
